Omar Haramy is a Palestinian Christian who works for a more just future in which all people -- Muslims, Jews, Christians, and others -- can live together in peace and justice through the power of nonviolent action. He is Director of Sabeel Ecumenical Liberation Theology Center in Jerusalem. Sabeel is a 30-year-old organization dedicated to the Palestinian liberation theology of peace and justice, which works for a just peace and engages in peacebuilding in the midst of decades of conflict and occupation.
The Berrigan-McAlister Award honors those whose acts of Christian nonviolence – like those practiced by Reverend Daniel Berrigan, S.J. Philip Berrigan and Elizabeth McAlister – resist injustice, transform conflict, foster reconciliation, and seek justice and peace for all.
Organized by the Department of Catholic Studies and sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Center for World Catholicism & Intercultural Theology (CWCIT), Peace, Justice, and Conflict Studies, Office of Mission & Ministry, and University Libraries
